These Men are the Three Best Running Backs in NFL History
This is a topic everyone talks about: who are your picks for the three best running backs in the history of the NFL? There are so many who are fan’s personal favorites. I’m standing pat with my three favorite running backs.
These three are the crème de la crème. In no particular order, I will start with the late great Walter Payton that played with the Chicago Bears. Payton aka “Sweetness” was pure greatness. He was a Super Bowl champion, NFL MVP 1977, 5x First-team All-Pro, 9x Pro Bowler and NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. He was just an excellent football player.
Then, there was Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns. Brown was an NFL champion in 1964, 3x NFL MVP, NFL Rookie of the Year 1957, 8x First-team All-Pro, 9x Pro Bowler, 5x NFL rushing touchdowns leader, NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Jim Brown was absolute pure greatness.
Now, rounding out my personal three best running backs in the NFL ever is the one and only Barry Sanders that played for Detroit Lions. Sanders came out of Oklahoma State with a Heisman Trophy. He was drafted by the Lions and had a Hall of Fame career with a bad inconsistent team. Sanders was an NFL MVP in 1997, 2x NFL Offensive Player of the year, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, 10x Pro Bowler, 4x NFL rushing yards leader, NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. There is no doubt Barry Sanders was just an amazing back that couldn’t be tackled. He never sustained a concussion in his career. That speaks volumes.
These three men are my absolute top running backs in the history of the NFL. Now the question is, who are your top three running backs? Please respond, I want to know!
