Cleveland.com is among multiple media outlets to report that LeBron James (pictured above) has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent on Friday morning.

According to Cleveland.com, James will not exercise his $35.6 million player option for the 2018-19 season to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James finished 2nd in the NBA's Most Valuable Player voting behind winner James Harden of the Houston Rockets earlier this week.  He led the Cavaliers to their fourth straight NBA Finals appearance this season, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in four straight games.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are frequently mentioned as destinations for James.  Free agency in the NBA begins on Sunday.
