The World's Largest Brown Trout is Mounted in Michigan [Photos]

It's no fish story. Baldwin, Michigan has a place in the record books as the home of the world's largest brown trout sculpture.

This one's a keeper and is mounted downtown for all to see. Baldwin, Michigan, has erected the world's largest brown trout sculpture in an attempt to net tourists.

Why Baldwin?

Troutarama is a big draw to the small town Baldwin every year, and now, they've constructed a piece of art to cement their reputation for being one of the best spots for fishing.

Why a brown trout?

Brown trout are a European species, first introduced to U.S. waters in 1884, when the U.S. Fish Commission released nearly 5,000 of the fish into the Baldwin River, a tributary of the Pere Marquette in Baldwin, Michigan.

When was it "caught"?

The art was unveiled in May of 2018. Sculptor Ivan Iler, a St. Johns, Michigan artist was commissioned a year earlier to create a sculpture of the one that got away.

How big is it?

Iler's research found the world's largest brown trout sculpture was a 20' specimen in New Zeeland, so he set out to stretch a little, as fishermen are known to do. The Baldwin piece is 25' tall and 8' in diameter at its widest point.
