Online Sports Betting and Gambling Almost In Michigan
Is this something you have been waiting for, online sports betting in Michigan? Thousands certainly have been, and are anxiously awaiting Michigan casinos launching online sports betting and gambling games this month, December, However, there is one sticky wicket. State lawmakers have to waive the remaining time they have to review proposed licensing rules. What would you like to bet that happens?
Fox17 reported that the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, which has 10 legislators, will effectively bless the new regulations at a meeting today, Tuesday, said the chairman, Republican Sen. Pete Lucido. The expected move will come nearly a year after the Legislature and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer legalized internet gambling and wagering on sports.
Last spring sports bettors were able to place wagers in person at casinos, but mobile sports betting, internet poker and other online games had to wait until the three commercial casinos in Detroit, 24 tribal casinos and suppliers such as FanDuel and Barstool received their licenses.
There's no doubt that everybody wants to get this thing going, and everyone agrees it's long overdue. COVID-19 has certainly played a major role in all of the delay. Detroit's casinos, had to close, of course, due to state coronavirus restrictions, and they would certainly benefit from being able to offer mobile options.
Mary Kay Bean, spokeswoman for the Michigan Gaming Control Board, said that if all goes well they are very hopeful things will begin late this month.
