This journey started way back in May of last year.

The "Chiefs" moniker was on its way out. A new mascot would be voted on and put into place. That decision did not come without resistance and backlash.

A lot of community members were actually up in arms about a potential name change. They found nothing wrong with the Chiefs mascot. It's been that way for a while and has some significant historical meaning. None of which people thought was offensive.

After some very lengthy discussions (that tried to be ultra inclusive and get representation from everyone), it got down to the final four.

The choices?

  • Eagles
  • Grizzlies
  • Wolves
  • Owls

The board voted to change the mascot to Wolves in February after the district had used the Chiefs for years. The decision was made over concerns it was insensitive to the indigenous community. (WILX)

Monday night, the new mascot logo was presented to the school board.
