The Michigan High School Athletic Association has voted to limit the amount of contact high school football players can endure during practices.

Originally, the amount of time allowed for full contact practices was 90 minutes per week during the regular season.  Once the new rule is put into action, it will drop to only 30 minutes a week.  The Athletic Association cited a study done on concussions which showed a staggering 58% of concussions in high school football happen on the practice field.

The preseason will be handled differently, allowing for a maximum of 6 hours a week for full contact practices and scrimmages.

Michigan is the second state to reduce full contact practice times to a level approved by the non-profit, Practice Like Pros.
