The Detroit Lions regular season kicked off Sunday. Here's how it went for new quarterback Jared Goff vs ex-Lion quarterback Mathew Stafford.

I came into work this past weekend to get a head start on the week and what better way to work than have football on the TV in one studio and on the radio in my office. Wait...this is the Detroit Lions...talk about an emotional roller coaster while working.

In pre-season, we really didn't get a good look at the Detroit Lions, but on Sunday, we saw them in the regular season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

The first part of the first quarter the Lions looked promising. They picked up a fumble from 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo but were not able to capitalize on the turnover with a missed field goal by Siebert.

The next time the Lions got the ball, Goff drove the team down the field and it looked they had a bit of a running game then a touchdown pass to Hockenson. But that was really about it for the first half. The 49ers just dominated the rest of the half ending the half with a score of 31-10.

I'm like, oh man, here we go, nothing has changed with the Lions new quarterback Goff and new coach Dan Campbell. Well...until the second half and especially late in the game.

The second half, the Lions held the 49ers to only 10 points and the defense started finally stopping the offense of the 49ers. What impressed me the most was how the team didn't lay down and continued to fight all the way until the end of the game and wound up getting with in a touch down and going for 2 to tie the game but failed getting the first down they needed and the 49ers won 41 to 33.

Goff wound up with 338 yards, 3 touchdown passes but one interception in the first half that really put an early nail in the coffin.

I was listening to the post game show and coach Dan Campbell owned the loss and said he needed to do better and the team needed to better with the small stuff but was proud of his team for keeping up the fight all the way until the end.

We will find out just how much the Lions learned from game one next Monday when they head to Green Bay to take on the Packers who had an even worse opening day loss against the New Orleans Saints by a score of 38-3. Ouch.

Former Detroit Lion quarterback Mathew Stafford had the game with his new team the Los Angeles Rams that we always wanted here in Michigan.

The Rams played the Chicago Bears at the brand new Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles,  that an absolute amazing looking stadium. The Rams beat the Bears easily with a score of 34-14.

Stafford completed 20 of 26 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns, throwing zero interceptions and posting a passer rating of 156.1. That's a nearly perfect passer rating and only 2.2 shy of the immaculate 158.3 mark.

The second pass from Stafford was 67 yards play and landed right in the hands of Rams receiver Van Jefferson who went untouched all the way to the endzone. Now that is how you start a game on a new team right there.

It looks like Stafford has a great connection with Rams coach Sean McVay. You could see their comradery to one another was like they are brothers. Stafford also connected with his teammates as if he has been there all along.

On the post game interview with Mathew Stafford, he looked happy, praised his new coach and his team just like he did the Lions when he played for them, except he looked happier than I have ever seen him.

We will really see how both the Lions and the Rams are in week 7 when they go head to head in L.A. October 24th.
