Is Michigan State a Sleeper Team in the Big Ten?
After watching Mel Tucker’s MSU Spartan Football team on Friday night, I was impressed. We haven’t seen that explosive of an offense in years.
Tucker and his staff did the right thing and combed the Transfer Portal. He had to get almost 40 new players, and one of those players is Kenneth Walker who transferred from Wake Forest. Walker had 264 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. He was absolutely sensational. The Northwestern Wildcats had no answer for Walker. In his first carry as a Spartan, he had a 75 yard from scrimmage for a touchdown.
Listen, I’m not getting over-hyped yet because this team has all new players that have to blend together. Their second opponent will be Youngstown State. MSU is a 19 point home favorite, but they cannot have a letdown.
You really won’t have a feeling for how good this team is until the fourth or fifth game, but things do look bright for the future of the Spartans. I believe Head Coach Mel Tucker has this team under control. He seems to demand excellence from his coaching staff and players.
Last week was just one game with one player bringing greatness to the win. MSU was an underdog going into the game and absolutely dominated. Tucker was given a vote of confidence from former MSU Head Coach and current Alabama coach Nick Saban when he was hired.
So the question is, how good is MSU actually going to be? Bring on Youngstown!
