Let Me Introduce You To Kenneth Walker, III
Michigan State is 1-0 after last Friday's 38-21 victory over Northwestern last Friday night.
But the college football world was introduced to a junior transfer running back from Wake Forest named Kenneth Walker, III.
All Walker, III did in his first game as a Spartan was rush for 264 yards and four touchdowns on just 23 carries. That's over 10 yards per carry. TEN!!! And his first carry as a Spartan was a 75 yard touchdown run on the very first play from scrimmage.
Walker, III was honored by the Big Ten as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week (as you can see from the highlights below).
If Walker stays healthy, all of a sudden, you have depth at running back. You have experienced guys like Jordan Simmons and Elijah Collins behind him. That would answer one big question everyone had before the season. Although, the Harold Joiner injury will hurt.
And a really good running back takes a lot of pressure off of an inexperienced QB like Peyton Thorne (who was solid in the season opener).
It remains to be seen how good MSU will be this year. You can't count Youngstown State this coming Saturday (they should win that easily). But the Miami game, and a few other games, look a lot more winnable than they did a week ago.
I thought that if MSU lost to Northwestern that 4-8 was possible. But if State won, I thought 7-5 was possible. Well, 7-5 is possible now, maybe even 8-4. That's a huge win for Michigan State.
What do you think now about MSU?
