Michigan State football seniors Jake Hartbarger and Brandon Sowards (pictured with former teammate LJ Scott) have been granted a rare sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA earlier this week.

Hartbarger, MSU's starting punter, was injured in the Arizona State game last season and never returned.  As a fifth-year senior, he needed to file a petition with the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility.

As for Sowards, a wide receiver, played significant time in 2018.  But he missed the entire 2017 season due to an ACL tear in his knee.

Both Hartbarger and Sowards are expected to be key contributors for the Spartans in 2019.
