Goaltender Jimmy Howard was lost two minutes into the game and the Detroit Red Wings had their two game winning streak snapped as they fell to the Washington Capitals 3-1 Saturday night at the Verizon Center. Washington (22-11-8) opened the scoring in the first period when Troy Brouwer shot the puck past Petr Mrazek who had replaced Howard when he left due to a groin injury. The Caps added second period goals from John Carlson and Joel Ward to complete their scoring. Detroit (22-11-9) avoided being shutout when Jonathan Ericsson found the back of the net with 11.7 seconds left in the second period. Braden Holtby stopped 26 of 27 Red Wing shots while Mrazek and Howard combined for 14 saves. Detroit will next take the ice in Buffalo Tuesday night when they will face the Sabres. Puck drops at 7:00 pm on Lansing's Sports Station The Game 730.
