U of M Beats Vanderbilt With Help From Two Portage Pitchers
If you had not heard yet the University of Michigan baseball team is in the College World Series final round. To win the national title Michigan must beat Vanderbilt in a best of 3 game series.
Last night was their first game and Michigan beat Vanderbilt 7 to 4. One more win and they are the national champions. The last time Michigan became the national baseball champions was way back in 1962. Tonight at 7 pm EST is their next game against Vanderbilt.
A very interesting side point is the winning pitcher last night was junior lefty Tommy Henry, allowing four runs on seven hits in 8 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Tommy Henry went to Portage Northern high school. Tommy is 3-0 in the NCAA Tournament, allowing just nine runs in 31 2/3 innings.
The pitcher who came in to make the last 2 outs of the game was Jeff Criswell, a sophomore who played for Portage Central High School just 2 years ago.
What a great showing for two Portage kids.
Good luck Michigan!
