Especially when two things that seem to pair so well seamlessly just match up.

Peanutbutter and jelly.

Batman and Robin.

The Lansing Art Gallery and The Knapp's Building in Downtown Lansing.

When you're literally moving on up, out of the basement.

The Lansing Art Gallery has been around since 1965 and has had five homes (locations) in Lansing since its creation.

In 2004, the gallery moved into the swank former Liebermann’s Dept. Store building, the only storefront in the United States designed by George Nelson. In 2010, to accommodate a growing roster of educational programs, the gallery moved to its current location at 119 N. Washington Square. (Lansing City Pulse)

Fast forward to November 2021and as we approach the end of the year, the Lansing Art Gallery is about to start a new beginning at a new location. And it's another iconic Lansing department store space. As a matter of fact, a space that's got its own artistic signature and flair.

Today (November 29th) the gallery announced to its members that it is moving from its current digs in the basement of 119 N. Washington Square into the first and second floors of a spectacular downtown Art Deco landmark, the Knapp’s Building, for at least a year.

The gallery will occupy a two-story space along Washtenaw Street between South Capitol Avenue and South Washington Square. (Lansing City Pulse)

The folks at the gallery are pretty excited about the move and all that will come with it.

I am thrilled to share that we’ll be moving to the Knapp’s Building in downtown Lansing. This special opportunity is for at least one year, thanks to the generosity of the George F. Eyde Family, LLC. This architectural landmark features many desired attributes, including an above-ground location, natural light, and nearby parking. (Lansing Art Gallery)

For some folks, it just takes being above ground and some natural light to get excited about. The move should be complete by January 2022 with events shortly after that.

Until they move, check out what should be their final exhibition at their current location.

Our Michigan Made | Holiday Art Exhibition is taking place in our current space at 119 N. Washington through Dec. 23. (Lansing Art Gallery)

And after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, please keep the Lansing Art Gallery in mind for Giving Tuesday.

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
