Pistons owner, Tom Gores, returned home to Flint Monday and held a huge Toys For Tots event.

Gores grew up in Genesee County, and since he bought the Pistons, he has held a huge Toys For Tots event in the area. This year was obviously different because of the pandemic. Normally a few players, and Pistons dancers will come to the events and help distribute the toys. The players are obviously occupied with the start of the NBA season, and are limited to where they can go to reduce the Covid risk.

Gores and his wife usually host Toys For Tots events in both Flint and Detroit each year. This year their family helped Toys For Tots distribute more than 10,000 gifts between the two events. The gifts included toys, bikes, kindles, and many more items to help make sure kids had a Merry Christmas.

The Flint event happened at the Toys For Tots headquarters on Saginaw St. Gores told Mlive about why it was so important for his family to give back to Flint.

The goal of spreading happiness and joy in my home state is why we launched this effort 14 years ago. We are honored to work with Toys for Tots for over a decade. It’s an amazing organization and we are proud to support the important work they do

Say what you want about the way that Gores runs the Pistons, but you can never question where his heart is at.
