There are college administrators that feel that if there are no students on campus this coming fall, then there won't be football or any other sport to be played.

Those administrators said as much in a conference call last week with Vice President Mike Pence.  Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby (a former AD at Northern Iowa, Iowa and Stanford) said in a quote to CBS Sports that "Our players are students. If we’re not in college, we’re not having contests.”

The entire sports world from high school to the pros has been shut down due the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The NHL & NBA hope to restart their seasons soon, and MLB hopes to start their season at all.  All the leagues, as well as the NCAA (and MHSAA in Michigan) shut down last month due to COVID-19.

Fall practice for football (as well as other NCAA sponsored falls sports) starts in early August.
