The Lansing State Journal reports Washington, a walk-on freshman with the team, was arrested and charged in early March by Ingham County on assault or assault and battery. The charge usually carries a sentence of three months in prison. It is unknown if Washington has been convicted of this or any other crime at this time.

The incident in question happened in August of 2017. Evidence from the investigation was processed in December.

Washington's name was previously released as part of an ongoing investigation back in February by ESPN. At that time ESPN's sources claimed Washington was being investigated for a "high-court misdemeanor" and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. The charge he currently faces is of a non-sexual nature.

Per the Lansing State Journal, Washington's case is not listed in court records, and officials with the Ingham County Prosecutors Office declined to comment on the case because they said it is nonpublic.

Washington, who is 19, could have his case sealed due to the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which protects offenders 24 and younger.
