As cases of new coronavirus spread across the state, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is working to keep the public as informed as accurately and as timely as possible.

In a recent release, MDHHS says they will begin reporting case numbers for COVID-19 "at a new time with new metrics."

In an online update, daily at 2 p.m., the department will share the statewide numbers for:

  • Cases and deaths by county
  • Cases by age range (in 10-year increments)
  • Cases by sex

The information in the daily updates will include all that is reported through midnight the previous day as counties, labs and epedemiologists work to track, test and analyze information about the spread of COVID-19.

While MDHHS points out health care providers, local health departments or others may make information in the "official" updates public before it goes out, they say local health departments are also a great source to get more details on specific cases.

Among these changes, there also is information they will stop publicly reporting.

"MDHHS will no longer report the number of persons under investigation, tests pending, referred for assessment and/or monitoring to date and total assessment and/or monitoring referrals under active monitoring," the release said.
