COVID-19 is still very much here and the new B.1.1.7 variant has been found at East Lansing Michigan State University Campus.

Luckily the good people there were already prepared for the more contagious variant and had protocols in place to help mitigate the spread.

President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., said March 16, 2021, that the university partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services laboratory to identify the B.1.1.7. coronavirus variant on campus. I think even with the new strain touching down, people are more prepared than ever to combat a virus. Yea, a strain that's more contagious, and potentially more dangerous is a pretty scary idea. But we can't keep things shut down forever, and now with Ford Field becoming a new vaccination site things are leaning in a more positive direction.

Stanley said the variant's presence was not unexpected, but reinforced the need for safety protocols, including wearing face coverings, social distancing, avoiding crowds, getting tested and washing hands often.

MSU's East Lansing Campus seems to understand the risk involved and is doing everything in order to keep students safe.
