Lugnuts Join With Marvel Entertainment
The Lansing Lugnuts announced on Thursday that they, along with 95 other minor league baseball teams, have signed on to a deal with Marvel Entertainment starting next season.
This deal, a three-year deal, will allow the Lugnuts to do a Marvel-themed game at some point during the 2022 season. The team has had great success with other cartoon, superhero, or movie blockbuster promotions such as "Star Wars", "Harry Potter", "Wonder Woman", etc. over the years.
The Lugnuts have not announced when the Marvel-themed night will be as of yet. But that is expected to happen at some point this offseason.
Lansing just completed their 25th Anniversary season in 2021. They have played their entire existence at Jackson Field in downtown Lansing. Although the ballpark has been known Oldsmobile Park and Cooley Law School Stadium before being renamed Jackson Field before the 2021 season.
The Lugnuts have won a pair of Midwest League (as it was then known) titles in 1997 and 2003. They finished the 2021 season with a 58-62 record and ended up tied for fourth with West Michigan in the High-A Central League's Eastern Division. They will open the 2022 season next April 8th at Jackson Field against the Lake County Captains.
In case you don't know, Marvel-themed superheroes include Spider-Man (pictured above with Marvel comics writer, the late Stan Lee), Captain America, Black Panther, and all the characters in the famed "X-Men" series.
