Lions Get Favorable Start With 2022 Schedule

The NFL released their official 2022 season schedule on Thursday, and the Lions have a chance to get off to a fast start.

Three Of Their First Four Games Are At Ford Field

The Lions, one of the youngest teams in the NFL got a favorable draw at the start of the season, as three of their first four game will be at home. The downside of that is three of their last four games will be on the road.

The Lions will open up at Ford Field against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 11 at 1:00pm. The following week, they host the Washington Commanders, before finally hitting the road in week three against NFC North rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions return home in week four to face the Seattle Seahawks.

The Eagles are probably going to be the toughest opponent of those first four. They have a decent quarterback in Jalen Hurts, and snuck into the playoffs in their first year under head coach Nick Sirianni.

The Commanders and Seahawks will be starting new quarterbacks in 2022, and like the Lions have a lot of promise, but also a lot of unresolved questions after sub-par seasons in 2021.

The Lions, of course, have nowhere to go but up after a disastrous 3-13-1 campaign a year ago.

The Buffalo Bills Will Be This Year's Thanksgiving Day Game

Other highlights of the 2022 schedule include the traditional Thanksgiving Day game against the Buffalo Bills, a team with Super Bowl aspirations after falling to Kansas City in the wild shoot out in last year's playoffs.

The Lions will also have home games against Miami and Jacksonville, in addition to NFC North Division rivals, Chicago, Green Bay and Minnesota.

Road games, outside of their division will feature two trips to New York to take on the Jets and Giants. They will also travel to Dallas to play the Cowboys, New England to face the rebuilding Patriots, and Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers.

I think the Lions will improve in 2022, but how much? It's hard to say. I'll go ahead say they'll finish with 7 wins and 10 losses. Baby steps. I think they're two years away from being a playoff team.
