Jets Backup QB Zach Wilson To Start Against Lions On Sunday
New York Jets starting quarterback Mike White has not been cleared by team doctors to play due to his injury to his ribs, and therefore, will be unable to play for the Jets this coming Sunday against the Detroit Lions. That's according to Jets head coach Robert Saleh on Friday morning.
Backup QB and former starter Zach Wilson (pictured above) will start in White's place. Wilson had started for the first seven games of the 2022 regular season, going 5-2, before he was benched for White. He had been inactive for the last three weeks while White had started.
The Jets are currently 7-6 on the season, and have lost two games in a row. They are tied with the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers for the 7th and final playoff spot in the AFC entering Week 15. But they would out of the postseason due to tiebreakers. White was injured in last Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills after he was crunched on a sack by Bills linebacker Matt Milano.
The Detroit Lions enter Sunday's contest against the Jets at 6-7, and have won five of their last six games. They are currently 1 1/2 games out of a Wild Card playoff berth in the NFC. This Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will be the second time the Lions have played in New Jersey this season. They knocked off the New York Giants 31-18 back on November 20th.
