Kids Love Field Day In Michigan As School Winds Down

Did you have Field Days when you grew up? We did and they were a lot of fun. Field Day meant that the shool year was on its' last leg and there wasn't much left to do but have some fun with our classmates that we might not see for the entire summer.

I went to my sons Field Day yesterday and had a blast. It was fun walking up and seeing the big parachute surrounded by kids ready for the next activity. We did the parachute thing too when I was in elementary school at Field Day. In fact I recall the parachute being used often in gym class. A lot.

If you can work it in to your schedule, attend your kids Field Day. Work can be tough and might not be flexible. Iff your workplace is flexible then do yourself a favor and get there to watch your kid. You get to see your kid in real time surrounded by their peers and we don't get to see that much when they are at home because, well, they are at home. Our kids aren't growing up fast.

While doing so you will have a nice stroll down memory lane from when you were a kid. I had some great memories pop up about my grade school friends. It reminded me that I was a kid once too and maybe I should reach out to some of my friends that I haven't talked to in decades.

I love being a dad and experiencing my kiddo grow up. Field Day was a humbling reminder that he's not getting any younger.

My Field Days were pretty simple with a few activities. I'd like to tip my hat to Mrs. Haggerty and Mrs. Freeman for a fantastic Field Day and none of it would be possible without the entire LES staff, parent volunteers and the Laingsburg community. Well done.

Laingsburg Field Day

It was a cool but sunny day for Field Day and they were busy on the basketball courts.

Tug of war, classic. The girls had a great idea. Let the boys pull as hard as they can and they would let go. When the boys fell they would quickly pull the rope back to their side. It was a funny attempt.

I'm not sure what this game was called. It was like corn hole but you had to land your bean bag in the cone.

Oh, I think I just figured it out, maybe not. I bet it's called "Cone Hole".

You can't have a Field Day without a sack race. They were fun to watch.

This was a noodle relay game and it put the kids to the test. It's tough to carry all those noodles while running.

This was a fun game of sponge tag.

Then came the Big Foot walk. These big feet were big.

This was duck duck goose but cooler. Instead of saying goose and then being chased, the "ducker" poured water on the "gooses" head.

And then came the water balloon toss. Kids love water, no matter how cool it is outside.

The hula hoop challenge is always fun no matter the age. I'm terrible at this.

The idea of this challenge was to fill the buckets on one end with the water from the bucket on the other end, using a cup. Cool thing about these kids was that they pushed each other and rooted for one another.

No Field Day is complete without an obstacle course.

Laingsburg Field Day spillled over into the gym too. The kids loved it.
