Man Arrested Trying to Enroll in North Michigan High School to Date Minor
It sounds kind of like a movie plot, similar to the movie "Never Been Kissed" with Drew Barrymore. A grown adult enrolls as a student at a high school, and ends up falling in love. But, for the movie, Barrymore's character was a reporter, and fell in love with one of the teachers. Also, it's a movie.
This, unfortunately, is reality, and a grown man was actually just arrested while trying to enroll in a Michigan High School, just so he could date a student who attended it.
This happened in Mason County, Michigan, on the Lake Michigan coast in Scottville. The man in question is named Kevin Flick - a 22-year-old man from Tennessee, who went so far as to fly into Grand Rapids, and drive up to Mason County to meet this minor.
He had apparently been communicating with the teen (who will not be identified) for some time ahead of his trip to Michigan.
Once he arrived, staff at Mason County Central High School became suspicious when he attempted to enroll as a student, providing a false name and information. Employees contacted the Mason County Sheriff's office, and reported the activity, and eventually, Flick was arrested and provided his real information.
"Although I wished this series of events never unfolded, I couldn't be more proud of the MCC Employees, Deputy Postma, and our detectives." - Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
Following the arrest, Cole conveyed a message to the parents with children still in school to have conversations with them about how dangerous online dating can be.
Flick's bond was set at $5,000, and 9 and 10 News says he was charged with counts of child sexually abuse activity, child sexually abusive material possession, and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
