Boys basketball season is underway in the state of Michigan and for Brandon Johns and the East Lansing Trojans they hit the ground running with a 67-58 win over DeWitt in each team's season opener.

Johns, who committed to Michigan for college in the offseason, is a Mr. Basketball hopeful in his senior season and he started his campaign on the right foot with a 33 point effort in the win. He also came close to a triple double with nine rebounds (all in the second half) and seven steals in the game.

Noah Schon stepped up big time for a team that lost prolific scorers like DeAndre Robinson and Caleb Hoekstra. Schon scored 23 points in this one including hitting 4-9 shots from three point range. He also grabbed three rebounds.

In the loss DeWitt had a very balanced scoring attack with three different players in double figures, however a combination of some early season rust and some solid East Lansing defense saw the Panthers commit 21 turnovers in this game. A rough start for Bill Flannery's squad in his first game, but a positive showing given that stat for sure.

DeWitt also outrebounded East Lansing 36-29 in the game.

East Lansing's next game is at Jackson on Friday night, on that same night DeWitt will host Mason.
