Your Five Things For August 28th: Price Gets Rocked By Yankees
1. Tigers Can't Overcome Early Deficit Against Yankees
It was an early exit for David Price after giving up 8 runs in one inning as the Yankees won 8-4 and tied the series one game a piece. Price gave up 9 straight hits in the 3rd inning after not recording an out in the 3rd. The final stat line for Price was 2 innings, 8 runs on 12 hits with 3 strikeouts. Victor Martinez went 1-3 with a solo shot while Miguel Cabrera picked up another RBI last night and he is now 10 RBI's shy of 100. The Tigers will end the series against the Yankees as Kyle Lobstein will be making his first MLB start and will square off against Hiroki Kuroda.
2. Josh Shaw Incident Was False
USC cornerback and captain Josh Shaw had lied about how he injured his ankles. The original story is that Shaw jumped from a second story balcony to save his nephew, landing on concrete and pulling him out. He has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities. Josh admitted that he had lied about the story while USC was investigating the claims.
3. Josh Gordon Suspension Upheld
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon had his suspension upheld by the NFL yesterday and will be suspended for the season. The suspension is effective immediately and he can look for reinstatement after the 2014 season. Gordon had Maurice Suh, the same attorney who got Richard Sherman's appeal reduced.
4. Clayton Kershaw Gets His 16th Win Of The Year
LA Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw has picked up his 16th win of the season in a 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. With this start, Kershaw has now gone 14 straight games starting 7 or more innings. Kershaw pitched out of a bases loaded jam early in the game. Kershaw has also lowered his ERA to a league best 1.73 and is 16-4 on the season.
5. Royals Top Twins
After the walk off win the other night, the Royals scored 6 straight runs in the bottom of the 8th to beat the Twins 6-1. Phil Hughes went 7 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 runs. Liam Hendriks went 7 innings with 1 run on 4 hits but did not get the win. The Royals end the series against the Twins tonight at Kaufman Stadium before hosting the Cleveland Indians.
