The Detroit Tigers opened a three game series with the New York Yankees with a 5-2 win Tuesday night at Comerica Park. Detroit (71-59) was led by a domiinating performance on the mound from Rick Porcello who gave up one run over eight innings and striking out five for his 15th win (15-8) which is tied with teammate Max Scherzer for the American lead. J.D. Martinez had three hits and an RBI and Torii Hunter added two hits and an RBI as well and Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 28th save. New York (68-62) scored their only runs on a pair of Jacoby Ellsbury solo home runs. Brandon McCarthy (5-3) gave up nine hits in six innings to earn the loss. The two teams continue their series Wednesday night where the Tigers will honor retiring Yankee icon Derek Jeter before the game. David Price (12-9) takes the mound for Detroit while Shane Greene (3-4) will start for the Yankees.
