We're hitting the homestretch of the high school boys and girls basketball season in Mid-Michigan.  The cream is rising to the top as to who the best teams are in the area.

On the boys side, the big surprise is Grand Ledge, without question.  Nobody had them undefeated in CAAC Blue play this late in the season.  As of this writing, they are three games up on Holt with five games left to play.  Head Coach Scott Lewis has a terrific backcourt in Cassell Jones and Malek Adams who have been great this year.

Another surprise is DeWitt.  Not that they don't have a good team, but most people had Haslett as winning the CAAC Red this year.  Joshua Borta and Andrew Eible have been terrific for coach Ron Marlan.

On the girls side, after two early losses, Grand Ledge has asserted itself in the CAAC Blue, they haven't lost in the calendar year 2014 yet.  In the Red, Haslett and DeWitt are top-notch.  The Gold has Eaton Rapids, Jackson NW, and Charlotte has been a nice surprise.  Portland and Williamston are up there in the CAAC White, and the CMAC is wide-open with P-W, Portland St. Pat's, and Laingsburg.

The tournaments are coming up in a few weeks.  I will analyze the districts in a future blog.

Don't forget to join Steve Miller and myself each Saturday morning from 10am-12noon for Prep Basketball Weekly on The Game 730 AM WVFN.  The weekly recap show of both boys and girls basketball in Mid-Michigan.
