1. Tigers Drop Final Game Vs Royals

The Detroit Tigers dropped the final game of a three game weekend series in Kaufman Stadium losing 5-2 to the Royals.  The Tigers sent Rick Porcello to the mound and did not last long, getting pulled after 3 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 9 hits with 1 strikeout.  The shining moment for the Tigers yesterday afternoon as Ian Kinsler hit a home run in the 3rd inning.  Jeremy Guthrie went 5 1/3 innings with 1 earned run, 2 runs overall, on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks willing picking up the win. Greg Holland picked up his 43rd save of the season.  The Royals will finish their suspended game against the Indians today and start a three game series against Cleveland.  The Tigers start a 3 game series against the White Sox.

2. Detroit Tops Green Bay At Ford Field

At Ford Field, the Lions took on rival Green Bay looking to improve to 2-1.  The Lions defense stood tall and was up to the challenge holding the Packers to 7 points as the Lions won 19-7.  Matthew Stafford played well going 22/34 246 yards and 2 interceptions as well as a fumble.  Reggie Bush lead the Lions in rushing as he picked up 61 yards on 12 attempts with 1 touchdown.  The defense did have a fumble recovery and a touchdown which lead off the scoring early in the first quarter.  Aaron Rogers went 16/27 for 162 yards with 1 touchdown.  Eddie Lacy, recovering from a concussion in week one ran for 36 yards and fumbled the football as well.  The Lions next game is against the New York Jets in New York.

3. Michigan State Steamrolls Eastern Michigan

On Saturday, Michigan State squared off against Eastern Michigan.  Michigan State got off to a hot start leading 49-0 at halftime.  The final score was 73-14 as Mark Dantonio played most of the players and rested many of his starters.  The Spartans forced 6 turnovers losing 5 fumbles and 1 interception.  Michigan State picked up 336 yards on the ground while holding Eastern Michigan to 135 total yards.  Michigan State will play Wyoming this week at Spartan Stadium.

4. Utah Tops Michigan At Big House

After leading by 3 at halftime, Utah held on to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor 26-10.  Michigan out gained Utah 308 to 286 but Michigan had 4 turnovers, 3 interceptions and 1 fumble.  Michigan was outscored 13-0 after halftime.  Devin Gardner was pulled in the middle of the game after throwing tow interceptions and Shane Morris came in and threw 1 interceptions himself.  Utah quarterback Travis Wilson threw for 1 touchdown and 172 yards.  Michigan will take on Minnesota at home next week.

5. Hunt For October Is On In The MLB

With one week left, the LA Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals all have opportunities to claim their divisions before the last day of the season.  The Tigers start a 3 series against the White Sox.
