1. Twins Bats Wake Up Late, Beat Tigers

Last night, the Minnesota Twins topped the Detroit Tigers after a surge late in the game winning 8-4.  The Tigers and Twins went back and forth as they traded the lead early in the game.  The Tigers had a 2-0 lead, then were trailing 3-2, then regained the lead in the 2nd inning leading 4-3.  In the 6th inning, the Twins open up the scoring leading 6-4 adding on insurance runs in the 8th inning.  David Price went 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts.  Kyle Gibson, went 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits to get the win.  The Tigers will have a day off before going into Kansas City for a 3 game set.  The starter on Friday is scheduled to be Justin Verlander and will face off against Jason Vargas.

2. Cardinals Running Back Jonathan Dwyer Deactivated

The Arizona Cardinals have deactivated running back Jonathan Dwyer after he was arrested for aggravated assault.  The arrest stemmed from two separate incidents that involved a 27-year old woman and a 18-month child.  The incidents occurred on the 21-22 of July.  The NFL said it will be reviewed under the NFL's personal conduct policy. This comes shortly after Greg Hardy was placed on the exempt-list for his arrest.  Read more about the Dwyer deal here.

3. Royals Inch Closer To Detroit

The Kansas City Royals topped the Chicago White Sox last night winning 6-2.  Chris Sale pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits which is uncharacteristic of Sale.  Sale Yordano Ventura got the win for the Royals going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts.  The Royals accumulated 11 hits while scoring 6 runs as they shift their focus to the Detroit Tigers as they come to town.  With the win, the Royals are only a 1/2 game behind the Detroit Tigers.

4. Winston Suspended For First Half Of Game

As Florida State gets ready for their game against Clemson, they will need to ready their backup quarterback.  Jameis Winston was suspended for screaming vulgar terms in a public space.  This is one of the many instances which Winston has been involved with.  Read more about the Winston story here.

5. Hunt For October Is On

The hunt for October is on and another AL division has been claimed.  After winning last night combined with an Oakland loss, the Angels can claim that they are AL West champions.  With that, 3 divisions have been claimed in both the AL and the NL.  NL East, Washington Nationals, AL East Baltimore Orioles and AL West with the Angels.  Check out the other division races and wild card races here.
