1. Royals Top Athletics In Wild Game

In Kansas City, the Royals hosted the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card Game with the winner to face the Angels.  In a wild game, the Kansas City Royals fought back to win in 12 innings with the final being 9-8.  In the 12th inning, the Athletics started off with a run to take a 8-7 lead.  In the bottom of the 9th, the Royals used a two out hit to end up winning.  The starter for the Athletics was Jon Lester and he went 7 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts.  James Shields started for the Royals and went 5 innings giving up 4 runs with 5 hits.  The Royals will head over to Angel Stadium as game one will be at 9 pm on October 2nd.

2. Tony Sparano Named Interim Coach

The Oakland Raiders spent no time naming the interim coach for the season.  Assistant for the Raiders this year and former Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano has been named the interim coach for the Oakland Raiders.  There was a press conference that introduced him as the new coach.  Read more about the Oakland Raiders and Interim head coach Tony Sparano here.

3. Michael Phelps Arrested For DUI

After 1 AM on September 30th, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was arrested for DUI.  Phelps was caught going 84 MPH in a 45 zone.  He was arrested in his home state of Maryland just outside of Baltimore.  Read more about Michael Phelps and his statements about the DUI here.

4. Students, Fans Rally Outside Of Presidents House

Last night, students and fans of the University of Michigan rallied outside of President Mark Schlissel demanding they get rid of Athletic Director Dave Brandon following the on field situation Saturday.  President Mark Schlissel did make a statement about the situation.  Yesterday early morning Dave Brandon did release a statement at 1 am.  In an online petition, over 9,000 fans, students, alumni and staff have signed to remove Dave Brandon as athletic director.

5. NL Wild Card Game Tonight

Tonight in Pittsburgh, the San Francisco Giants will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in PNC Park.  The Edinson Volquez will take the mound for Pittsburgh and Madison Baumgardner will take the mound for the Giants.  This is the second straight year that Pittsburgh will be in the NL Wild Card game.  Last year, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Wild Card.  Both teams are 88-74 and the winner will play the Washington Nationals.
