1. Red Wings Top Bruins In First Game Of Year

The Detroit Red Wings hosted the Boston Bruins last night in the first regular season game of the year winning 2-1.  One familiar face was missing as Pavel Dastyuk is out with an injury.  The Red Wings started off slow and fell down 1-0 after the first period.  The first Red Wing goal of the season came from Justin Abdelkader with assists from Danny DeKeyser and Johan Franzen.  Later in the period, Gustav Nyquist found the back of the net for the game winning goal.  Jimmy Howard was in net, getting the win, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced.  The Red Wings next game will be at home against the Anaheim Ducks.

2. Indianapolis Holds Off Houston To Win

Last night's Thursday Night Football pitted two AFC South foes as the Colts traveled to Houston to take on the Texans.  The Colts jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and most people thought the game was over.  But, the Texans started to build a comeback narrowing the gap to 27-14 by halftime and 33-21 by the end of the 3rd quarter.  Early in the fourth quarter the Texans scored off of a fumble recovery to cut the lead to 33-28.  But, the Texan's offense couldn't find the end zone as they ended up falling by the same score. Andrew Luck went 25/44 for 370 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.  Arian Foster led the Texans on 20 carries for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The Colts improve to 4-2 on the year while the Texans fall to 3-3.

3. Todd Gurley Suspended Indefinitely

Outstanding running back for the University of Georgia, Todd Gurley, has been suspended indefinitely by the University.  The school said the reason for the suspension is a violation of NCAA rules.  ESPN's Joe Schad was told from a source that the NCAA investigation surrounds money given for autographs and memorabilia.  Read more about the investigation as well as the status of Gurley here.

4. Pistons Top Bucks In Second Preseason Game

After trailing by 10 after the first quarter, the Pistons came back and beat the Milwaukee Bucks 94-80.  The Pistons were lead by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope lead the Pistons with 20 points making 7/9 free throws and 6-9 from the field.  The Pistons are now 2-0 in the preseason and will play our next game at the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

5. ALCS Starts Tonight

The next round of the MLB playoffs starts tonight as the Kansas City Royals will take on the Baltimore Orioles.  First pitch is slated for 8:00 pm.  The Royals and the Orioles are looking to make the world series for the first time in 20 + years.  The NLCS will take shape this weekend as the Giants will travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.  Check out the full schedule of the MLB Playoffs here.
