1. Red Wings Finish Off Wild In Shootout

Last night, the Red Wings hosted the Minnesota Wild at Joe Louis Arena in the last game before the All-Star Break.  The Red Wings got out to an early lead with a lead as large 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period.  But, when it came to 3rd period, the Wild woke up and scored 3 goals to tie the game and force overtime. After no goals during the overtime period, the Red Wings went to the shootout where they were 1-7 so far this season.  The Red Wings figured out the shootout winning 2-0 in the shootout and winning 5-4.  The Red Wings got goals from Teemu Pulkkinen, Jonathan Ericsson, Gustav Nyquist and Xavier Ouellet.  In the shootout, Pavel Datsyuk and Gustav Nyquist scored.  Petr Mrazek stopped 34/38 shots he faced last night and picked up his 9th win of the year.  The Red Wings will be off until next Tuesday for the All-Star Break when they will take on the Florida Panthers.

2. Michigan Gets Big Ten Win Over Rutgers

Last night, the Michigan Wolverines went to New Jersey to take on Big Ten newcomer Rutgers.  It was a hard fought battle for both teams with Michigan edging Rutgers 54-50.  Neither team shot particularly well with Michigan making 17 of the 49 shots they took and Rutgers shooting 19/53.  Derrick Walton Jr. had 12 leading Michigan with Aubrey Dawkins following with 11 points.  For Rutgers, Myles Mack scored 15 points leading the Scarlet Knights. Kadeem Jack also scored 13 points.  With the win, Michigan improves to 12-7 and 5-2 in conference play just a half game behind 1st place.  Michigan's next game will be Saturday at the Crisler Center as they take on #6 Wisconsin.  Tip is slated for 7:00 pm.

3. Report: MLB To Shorten Time Between Innings

According to reports, the MLB has a proposal to shorten between-inning breaks.  According to the proposal, pitchers will be required to be ready to pitch 30 seconds before the end of the commercials and 20 seconds for batters.  According to the report, doing this would help ensure that MLB game average would come down 10-15 minutes hoping to bring the average time of a game down under 3 hours.  Check out more of the report here.

4. Ravens Sign Trestman

Yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a contract with former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman to become the teams next offensive coordinator.  Trestman will be replacing Gary Kubiak who left Baltimore to become the head coach for the Denver Broncos.  In 2013, Trestmen and the Bears were the 2nd highest scoring team in the NFL while stumbling a little last year which led to Trestman's firing.  Read more about Trestman and the Ravens here.

5. Report: 11 of 12 Footballs Were Under-Inflated

According to an NFL report, 11 of 12 footballs used during the Patriots vs Colts game were under-inflated.  Who to blame is still out on verdict since it is the referees job to check the pressure before the game.  This is not a clear with who is at fault.  If proven that the Patriots did under-inflate the balls, there will be penalties of fines of at least $25,000 and/or loss of draft picks.  Read more about the report here.
