1. Tigers Take Game One Against Yankees

After an hour rain delay, the Detroit Tigers took the field against the New York Yankees winning 5-2.  Rick Porcello led the way throwing 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 9 hits and 2 strikeouts.  Joe Nathan came in for his 28th save of the year throwing a scoreless inning with one strikeout.  J.D. Martinez led the way offensively going 3-4 scoring 2 runs while getting a RBI.  Game two is scheduled for tonight at 7:08 as David Price (12-9) will face off against Shane Greene (3-1).

2. Anibal Sanchez Could Miss Remainder of Season

After a setback on Monday, Anibal Sanchez is afraid he could miss the remainder of the season.  The Tigers were hoping that he would be back in time for their series against the Chicago White Sox.  Sanchez was scheduled to see a doctor yesterday but we are still awaiting word from that visit.

3. North Carolina Investigating Hazing Incident

University of North Carolina has a football incident where it was reported that hazing was involved.  In the report on Yahoo! Sports, the indecent left a football player with a concussion.  The incident is reported to have happened the first week of August.  A UNC football team spokesperson said the university was "aware of an indecent involving members" of the football team.  There have not been any other comments from the University.

4. Royals Win In Walk Off Fashion

Down one entering the 9th, the Royals were looking for a hero. Alex Gordon filled that role hitting a two run home run to win the game for the Royals as they top the Twins 2-1.  Ricky Nolasco pitched 7 scoreless inning before Glen Perkins could not pull off the save.  The Royals maintain a 1 1/2 game over the Tigers with the win.

5. Roger Federer Advances In The US Open

Roger Federer advanced to the 2nd round of the US Open in straight sets.  Serena Williams also won in straight sets against an amateur from Chicago. American John Isner also advanced in straight sets.  Coverage can be found on ESPN as well as here.
