1. Braxton Miller Set To Have Surgery

Ohio State quarterback, Braxton Miller, is scheduled to have surgery on his shoulder today.  Dr. James Andrews will preform the surgery to repair Miller's torn labrum.  The two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year will have the surgery done in Florida.  Even though Miller will be out the whole year, he will still be a captain of the Ohio State football team.

2. Former Spartans Cut From NFL Teams

Former Spartans have been recently cut by NFL teams.  Isaiah Lewis is the name that leads the group but Johnny Adams, Micajah Reynolds and Edwin Baker all were put on waivers by their respective teams.  B.J. Cunningham was also placed on waivers on Saturday.  NFL teams have to lower their roster total to 75 by this afternoon and the final cut of 53 by August 30th.

3. Kenny Kaminski Transferring To Ohio University

After being dismissed from the team this month, Ohio native Kenny Kaminski will be transferring to Ohio University.  According to the Athens Messenger, Kaminski and Ohio University are going to look for a waiver to see if Kaminski can play this upcoming season.  If not, he will be able to practice but not play for the Bobcats this upcoming season.  The former Medina High School player committed to Michigan State in 2010 for the class of 2012.

4. Tigers Ready To Host Yankees

After a travel day, the Detroit Tigers will square off against the New York Yankees.  This will be Derek Jeter's final series in Detroit.  Tonight's pitchers are Rick Porcello and Brandon McCarthy.  Plenty of playoff implications are at stake as the Yankees are 2 1/2 games back of the final wild card spot and the Tigers are a 1/2 game out of the final wild card spot entering tonight.  First pitch will be at 7:08 pm at Comerica Park.

5. Royals Downed By Yankees In Make-Up Game

The Kansas City Royals were downed by the New York Yankees 8-1 in a make-up game.  James Shields went 6 and 2/3 inning giving up 6 runs and 10 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Michael Pineda went 6 and 1/3 innings with 1 run and 5 hits.  The Royals are now home against the Twins and then the Indians as the Tigers host the Yankees and go to Chicago for a Labor Day Weekend Series.
