1. The Tigers Top Pirates; Start 5 Straight Home Games

The Detroit Tigers bats woke up last night, scoring 8 runs winning 8-4.  Buck Farmer had his major league debut last night and pitched well going 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits throwing 83 pitches.  Blaine Hardy came in relief and got the win.  The bullpen came in and threw 4 scoreless innings.  Every Tiger got a hit except for Miguel Cabrera, who did get on base via a walk.  Nick Castellanos and Victor Martinez combined to go 5-8, 5 RBI's with 1 homerun.  The Tigers will play today at 1:08 pm with Max Scherzer taking the mound against Francisco Liriano.

2. Tiger Woods Withdraws From Ryder Cup Consideration

Tiger Woods announced on his website that he has taken himself out of consideration for the Ryder Cup vs Europe.  He talked to captain Tom Watson letting him know that he will not be able to play.  Woods has not been the same since his back surgery back in late March.  The Ryder Cup selection is due September 2nd and the Ryder Cup is September 26-28 in Scotland.

3. Rockies Tulowitzki Will Have Season Ending Surgery

The 29 year old Colorado Rockies shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki, will have season ending hip surgery.  He has been hurt since the 19th of July when he was sidelined with a hip flexor.  Tulowitzki was bound to be the NL MVP but because of his injury will not be able to win the award.  Tulowitzki has a contract signed through 2020 with a team option in 2021.

4. Donald Sterling Bid To Block Denied

An appeals court has rejected Donald Sterling's bid to block the sale of the LA Clippers.  The court also rejected a request to overturn a ruling that had cleared the path for the sale.  Read more about the rulings and the wording of the courts here.

5. Kansas City's Vargas Shuts Down Athletics

Jason Vargas out dueled Scott Kazmir pitching a 3 hit complete game shutout as the Royals beat the Athletics 3-0.  Kazmir did well too, pitching 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs with only 1 strikeout.  The Athletics look to split the four game series today at 2:10 pm.
