1. Tony Stewart Hits, Kills Driver Saturday Night

Saturday Night, Tony Stewart hit and killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. at a dirt track in New York. Ward was out of his car walking towards Tony Stewart's car after he clipped him.  In reports, Tony Stewart was going around 30-40 mph when he hit Ward. The sheriff said that there was "No evidence of criminal intent."  Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

2. Tigers Lose 19-Inning Thriller

The Tigers lost the final game 6-5 after a Bautista single.  Rick Porcello came in off two days rest and pitched 2-innings and earned the loss.  David Price started the game giving up 4 runs over 6 innings.  The Tigers used everyone in the bullpen that they had available.  The Toronto Blue Jays Chad Jenkins went longer than starter Mark Buehrle going 6 innings and earning the win.  The Tigers play the Pirates this week as Verlander takes the mound.

3. Sanchez, Soria, headed to the DL

Before yesterday's game, the Tigers placed Anibal Sanchez and Joakim Soria on the 15 day DL.  The moves are retroactive to August 9th.  The Tigers will call up Robbie Ray who will start on Wednesday.  Because no other moves were made, the Tigers were down players in the bullpen entering the 19-inning game.  Both players could be out until the end of the month, if not a little longer.

4. Late Push Gives Lions Win In First Preseason Game

Football season is back in Detroit as the Lions opened the preseason against the Cleveland Browns and Johnny Manziel.  The Lions won 13-12 over the Browns.  The only touchdown scored was by the Detroit Lions 3rd string Kellen Moore to Corey Fuller for a 21 yard touchdown.  Calvin Johnson did not play and Matt Stafford only threw 4 passes in the first action of the preseason.  The Lions next game is in Oakland against the Raiders.

5. Rory McIlroy Wins Another Major

Rory McIlroy is making a statement winning his 2nd straight major championship.  In the hunt with McIlroy was Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson and Rickie Fowler.  He is the 4th player to win 4 majors and joins the likes of Tiger Woods, Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus.  Read more about McIlroy's win here.
