You Can Buy A Piece Of Detroit Sports History From Costco
Are you a Detroit Tigers Fan? Do you remember the famous Tyrus Raymond Cobb aka The Georgia Peach? Cobb spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers and Costco is selling an autographed Ty Cobb baseball bat for $160,000. Just pocket change, right? I could definitely dig through my couch cushions and scrounge that up.
Need a little refresher on the Hall of Famer? Maybe Warner Brothers and Tommy Lee Jones can jog your memory. Cobb was released in 1994 and covers the famous outfielder's career.
Cobb was born December 18, 1886 in Narrows, Georgia. He grew up with a father who pushed him to be the best and after his father's passing, his drive to be the best intensified.
"I never could stand losing. Second place didn't interest me. I had a fire in my belly."
There's only one bat for sale online now. The bat is conditioned and signature graded a 10 by PSA/DNA and includes an individually numbered and tamper-evident hologram. Ty Cobb's message reads...
"With Best Wishes Sincerely Ty Cobb 3-14-49"
Ty Cobb was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. He still holds the record for the highest career batting average with a .376. From 1907-1909 Cobb helped the Tigers win three American League pennants and was the manager from 1921-1926.
"He won nine consecutive AL batting titles from 1907 to 1915 and three more in his career. He hit .320 or better for 22 consecutive seasons including over .400 three times."
Hey, I'm no baseball expert, but Ty Cobb sure sounds like he was "that guy." If I had $160,000 lying around, I'd probably buy the bat just to say I had it.
