One of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) world heavyweight champion Bruno Sammartino passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82, according to Pittsburgh (PA) media outlets.

Sammartino held the WWE world title for eight years in the 1960's and 70's.  And before Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair came to the forefront in the 1980's, Bruno was generally regarded as the most famous pro wrestler in the world.

Sammartino was born in Italy but lived his entire adult life in the Pittsburgh area.  He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
