The Williamston boys basketball squad has had quite the season...a few in a row, actually. After splitting the CAAC White championship with Lansing Catholic, the Hornets will face those very Cougars Friday night for a Class B District Championship at Fowlerville. But, a very prominent figure on the Hornets bench will not be there.

Head Coach Jason Bauer is facing quite a health battle, and will be out indefinitely. According to the Lansing State Journal, doctors discovered multiple brain tumors after Bauer had complained of migraine headaches. He missed last night's District Semifinal win over Lansing Sexton. Assistant Coach Tom Lewis filled in, and will do so tomorrow night as well.

Bauer, 36, is a 1999 Williamston graduate. He was a standout basketball player for the Hornets, earning Class B All-State First Team honors his junior year in 1997-98. Bauer then went on to a successful college basketball career at Grand Valley State University, where he still is the school's third leading rebounder in history.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason and his family. Here's to you, coach! We're behind you hoping for a full and speedy recovery!
