- The Lions had been targeting Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt as its primary head coaching candidate.  Whisenhunt interviewed with the Lions last week, and many people believed he would be Detroit's next coach.  That plan hit a snag yesterday, as Whisenhunt accepted the Tennessee Titans coaching jobESPN mentioned Jim Caldwell as a likely possibility for the Lions.

 

-  Michigan State's basketball team is still banged up as they prepare for Wednesday night's road game at Northwestern.  Adreian Payne is questionable with a foot injury; Tom Izzo wants to take the proper long-term approach with Payne.  Branden Dawson is dealing with an illness, although tests revealed there was no sign of mononucleosis.  Travis Trice is recovering from an illness of his own and is getting healthier.

-  In college hoops, #2 Syracuse remained unbeaten with a road win over Boston College.  #15 Kansas got an impressive road win over #8 Iowa State; the Jayhawks were lead by 23 points from Nadir Tharpe.  Duke avoided losing their third loss in four games by narrowly edging Virginia.

- Jonathon Quick stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Los Angeles Kings shut out another western conference power, the Vancouver Canucks.  The Kings are third in the pacific division with 61 points.
