Weren’t The Olympics Great??!!
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are now complete, and what a 16 days it was over in France (and Tahiti, which hosted the surfing competition).
The United States won the medal count with 126. And they tied China for the most gold medals with 40.
As far as American teams that won gold? Men's and women's basketball took gold by defeating France in the gold medal (BTW, how great was Steph Curry in the medal round?). The women's gymnastics team won gold easily behind Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, et al. The men's and women's 4 x 400m relay teams in track & field won gold, and the U.S. Women's Soccer team gained redemption from a disappointing World Cup last year by beating Brazil 1-0 in the final.
Individual stars? Swimmers Torri Huske, Gretchen Walsh, Regan Smith, and especially Katie Ledecky were awesome. Simone Biles cemented her status as among the greatest gymnasts ever with 3 more gold medals and a silver. Scottie Scheffler shot a 62 in the final round to snare gold in the men's golf competition. And Australia's Lydia Ko qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame by winning gold in women's golf.
And how about the French swimmer, Leon Marchand? He won four golds and a bronze in Paris. Pretty awesome.
The best moments?? How about the U.S. Women's Rugby sevens team winning bronze by scoring in what equates to a 95-yard touchdown run as time runs out to defeat favored Australia, 14-12. Katie Ledecky dominating the women's 1,500 meter swim was incredible.
Steph Curry went legendary and scored 36 points in the men's basketball semifinal against Serbia to save the Americans. And then his 24 points versus France in the gold medal game, including the last 3-point basket where he put the French "to sleep" was just epic (seen above).
It was a great Olympics. I'm already looking forward to Los Angeles in 2028. What were your favorite moments? Let us know in the comments!
