On Tuesday, November 10th, it will be the 45th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. And today the Mariners' Church of Detroit honored the crew during the The Great Lakes Memorial Service.

The service honored all sailors who have lost their lives on the Great Lakes, but they also paid special tribute to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald who lost their lives on a cold November night in 1975. When the Edmund Fitzgerald was launched in 1958, it was the largest ship on the Great Lakes and remains to this day the largest ship that sunk on the Great Lakes.

You can watch the complete service, which the Mariners' Church of Detroit streamed on their Facebook, below.

And any post about the Edmund Fitzgerald has to include the song "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.

If you don't know much about the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald, you can read more about on Wikipedia.
