The National Football League's Washington Redskins announced on Monday that they are retiring the team's nickname and logo after using it for over 80 years.

A new nickname and logo was not announced by the team on Monday, the team cites trademark issues as to why there was no announcement.

The Redskins nickname and logo (helmet shown above) has long been criticized as being offensive to Native Americans.  FedEx, who is the title sponsor for the team's stadium in Landover, Maryland, had recently requested the team change its nickname.
