The owner of the Detroit Pistons is Tom Gores, a Michigan native and Michigan State University alum.

He has become a self-made billionaire over the years by buying companies and making big profits. He's also been in the movie business.

Now Tom Gores has a dilemma on his hands.

Gores bought the Pistons from the Davidson family, after hands-on owner Bill Davidson died. Since Gores has taken over, the bottom has really dropped out on the franchise.

Tom Gores lives in Beverly Hills, California--you know, swimming pools and movie stars. His Detroit Pistons are located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It seems to me he has kept his focus off the Pistons. He has put a lot of faith in longtime president of operations and Hall of Famer Joe Dumars.

This team has had many coaches since the Larry Brown years, and Gores didn't become a millionaire by being lazy and naïve. Now this franchise is at a crossroads. It's time to make some changes, and DuMars needs to be replaced along with bringing in a new coach. Plus, the Pistons have a few bad player contracts and need to make some key moves.

It will be interesting how Tom Gores handles this tumultuous situation. But when it comes to hiring a new coach, you know MSU head coach Tom Izzo's name will probably be on that list.

For Gores to get Izzo from his alma mater, money cannot be an issue on this deal, because the Pistons smell right now!
