Baseball Annual Winter Meetings were this past week in Las Vegas.  And the Detroit Tigers made a few additions to try to bolster their pitching staff as well as their infield.

On Monday, the team signed free agent pitcher Tyson Ross to a one-year contract worth a reported $5.75 million.  Ross had pitched for San Diego and St. Louis in the 2018 season.

And then later in the week, the team signed shortstop Jordy Mercer away from the Pittsburgh Pirates on a one-year deal worth a reported $5.25 million.  Mercer had spent his entire seven-year Major League career with the Pirates.  He is expected to replace free agent Jose Iglesias at shortstop.

The club also selected pitcher Reed Garrett in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.  He had been a pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization.
