The Detroit Tigers have shut down the 2018 first overall draft pick out of Auburn, starting pitcher Casey Mize, for the rest of the 2019 season.

Mize spent this season with the High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers and the AA Erie Seawolves.  He threw a no-hitter for Erie is his first start for the Seawolves earlier this season, but got injured in July and hasn't been as effective since then.

Mize is part of a group of pitching prospects that potentially could join and contribute to the Detroit Tigers in the next year or two.  Others are Matt Manning, Alex Faedo, and Franklin Perez.

The Erie Seawolves are leading the Eastern League's Western Division with a 42-18 record in the second half of the season.  Mize is expected to play in the fall Instructional League next month.
