With the 9th overall selection on the 2016 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers selected Matt Manning.

Manning, 18, is a right handed pitcher from Sheldon High School in Sacramento, California. Manning was a first team all-american for the 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game scouting service and was all-region 1st team at his high school in California.

Manning had a commitment to Loyola Maramount to play basketball and baseball, he's expected to forego college to join the Tigers organization.

Manning throws a mid to high 90s fastball, he's topped out at 97 according to various scouting reports. This summer he threw 40.1 innings, striking out 77 with a 1.91 ERA.
