Alex Avila tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh inning then hit the go ahead home run in the 12th as the Detroit Tigers slipped past the New York Yankees 4-3 at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night. Detroit (62-44) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first only to see Brian McCann hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. New York (58-54) then took the lead in the third on Jacoby Ellsbury's RBI double and Martin Prado hit a solo home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1. Andrew Romine hit a solo home run of his own in the sixth to close the game to 3-2. David Price (11-8) made his first start for Detroit since being traded from Tampa Bay but did not figure in the decision despite striking out 10 in 8.2 innings. Joakim Soria (2-4) earned the win and Joe Nathan pitched a perfect 12th for his 23rd save.  Matt Daley (0-1) tool the loss. The two teams continue their series in the Bronx Wednesday night as Justin Verlander (10-9) will throw for Detroit while Chris Capuano (0-1) starts for New York.
