Coming off the record setting heat this week, the weather should be absolutely gorgeous this weekend, and if you've never been to a professional golf tournament, there's one going on just north of downtown Grand Rapids. The Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give is going on now at the Blythefield Country Club.

With all the controversy going on on the men's side of professional golf, this is good opportunity to see some of the best female golfers in the world.

On Thursday, Jennifer Kupcho shot a career-best 9-under par 63 to take a first round lead with one stroke lead over Gerina Mendoza who shot a 64 and three golfers are tied for third at 7-under 65 (Anna Nordqvist, Lexi Thompson and Andrea Lee).

One interesting storyline is the defending champion, Nellie Korda, who last year shot a record 25 under par 263. Korda is making only her second start since she had surgery to correct a blood clot in her left arm. That operation put her on the DL for three months. Korda played Thursday afternoon, and shot 5-under 67, and that was playing with a pretty gusty wind.

There are three more days of play this weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and all three afternoons will be on the Golf Channel and on the Golf Channel app. Blythefield Country Club is on Northfield Drive and West River Drive NE.
