Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, one of the greatest players in Syracuse University basketball history, has died due to complications from a brain tumor, his family said earlier on Wednesday.

Pearl played for Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim in the 1980's and was a key contributor to the rise of the program and of the Big East Conference during that time.

He was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in the first round in 1986.  He was just 52 years old.
